BABY SHOWER - TWINS & TRIPLETS

The number of twin births in the United States, according to the US Census of 2007 was 133,122. It is a fact that with more technology of In-vitro and other methods of adding science to the birth process, the likelihood of having twins or triplets increases! In addition, someone who comes from a family of twins may be more likely to have twins themselves! Just look at the celebrities such as Brad and Angelina Pitt-Jolie, Julia Roberts, Denzel Washington and Jennifer Lopez.

In 2009, it was reported that an average of 100,000 twins are born each year in the US. It has also been reported that an increase in twins as compared to 1980 is up 70% which is believed to be due to women waiting longer until having babies and an increase use of fertility drugs. The top state twin producers are in NT, MA, and NJ which again is thought due to women in these states waiting to have children when they are older than the average. The states with the lowest average of twins is NM, AZ and AK. One place in Africa has 4 times the amount as the world average which is believed due to an Herb which is common to eat in the region.

There is even a Twins Day in Ohio on August 1-3rd. With this new increase in having more than one baby in a pregnancy, it is also important to discuss having a twin baby shower and what to ideas and things to think of for planning a baby shower for twins or triplets:
 

Baby Shower Favors
Twin and triplet baby shower favors can be as easy as putting two or three treats in a decorative cellophane bag with a ribbon and "thank you" tag. Fill the bags with homemade cookies, brownies, chocolate covered Oreo’s, turtles or truffles for a delicious, inexpensive guest gift. Practical favors include magnets, bath bombs, and candles. Many baby shower hosts select theme party favors with the most popular themes being “Two Peas in a Pod” and “Noah’s Ark” for twins. Others include sports, Hollywood (two or three stars are born,) and baby animals. To incorporate your theme, simply find a favor that you think your guest will love. Then locate free drawings or photos, related to your theme, on Google Images. Print, cut and attach the pictures to plain wrapping paper and wrap each favor.

Baby Shower Party Theme
A cute idea is to use the twin theme in everything you do such as two pea pods, two baby rubber duckies as centerpieces, or symbolic pairings such as sun and moon, peanut butter and jelly, etc.

Knowing there will be at least two infants means a lot more potential stress and financial responsibilities for the parents-to-be. It is great to give practical gifts such as diapers, safety products, bath supplies, as well as everything they place on their baby registry. It is a cute idea to get finger food and make it in two's or three's fore twins or triplets, such as peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, pea pods or edemame. Drinks and desserts can also be in two's or three's in making a fun theme party!

Place up decorations in two's or three's (three bottles, pacifiers, buggies, onesies) as well as the centerpieces staying with the twins theme.

Water Breaks - (Materials: 1" plastic baby figures, balloons, water) - This is a great baby shower game ideally for outdoor showers, considering it may get a little messy. Take 8-10 dark colored deflated balloons and squeeze an artificial baby inside. In one of the balloons, put two babies in a single balloon (twins). Put that balloon inside a bigger inflated balloon with some water. Guests will have to find creative ways to pop the balloon (considering they will get a little wet) to find out if they have the twin baby balloon. The guest with the winning balloon gets the prize.
