I am hosting a baby shower for my sister. Her and her husband have been trying for 6 years to have a baby and it has finally happened. There will be a lot of out of state guest at the shower, and probably 100 people. I was thinking or the onesie games, and the pacifier necklace if any one says mommy game, finger foods and presents. Does that sound like enough for a two hour shower I want there to be plenty of time for socializing. Or should I add one more game?

5 New Games to Play at Your Baby Shower

Are you looking for some fun and interesting games to play at the baby shower you are hosting? Games are the key to hosting a memorable baby shower that all of your guests will be certain to remember. At the same time, many baby shower games have been played so often that they simply are not very exciting for your guests. With these new games played at baby showers, on the other hand, your guests will be sure to have a great time.

Game #1: Dressing Baby

You can get your guests moving and having a good time with the baby dressing game. With this game, you simply purchase a life size doll as well as clothing items such as a diaper, an undershirt, pants, socks, shoes and more. Then, time each player tries to see how quickly she can get the “baby” dressed and undressed. The person who accomplishes the task the most quickly is the winner – and the clothes can be given to the mom-to-be when the game is done.

Game #2: Name that Baby

A traditional game that is often played at baby showers involves instructing guests to come up with one baby name for each letter of the alphabet and giving a prize to the first person who comes up with a name for each letter. You can put a fun twist on this game, however, by providing your guests with a limited amount of time to come up with their names. Then, have each guest take turns reading off her list of names. Everyone who has the same name on her list has to cross that name off. Therefore, the more unique the name, the greater the chances of having the most names left on the list and winning the game.

Game #3: Images of Baby

If you are looking for a game that is sure to be fun for your guests and to draw some laughter from everyone, you might want to try the baby drawing game. First, have each guest place her initials or name on the back of a paper plate. Then, instruct your guests to draw a picture of a baby on the other side of the plate. The catch? Your guests have to place the paper plate on their top of their heads and draw a picture without looking at what they are doing. After each guest has about 2 to 3 minutes to draw her picture, collect the plates and have the mom-to-be choose the winning drawing – but, make sure everyone gets to see the resulting pictures as they are being judged.

Game #4: Name that Tune

Thanks to the magic of modern technology, you can play a baby shower game that wasn’t so easy to put together a few years ago. First, brainstorm a list of songs containing the word “baby” in them and burn the songs onto a CD that you can play at the shower. At the shower, divide your guests into teams and play your own version of “Name that Tune.”

To play the game, each team first sends a contestant up to the front of the room. Then, facts about a song are read to all of the contestants. Each contestant then names how many seconds of the song she needs to hear in order to “Name that Tune.” The contestants continue to outbid each other by lowering the number of seconds they think they need to hear of the song in order to name it. The bidding continues until one contestant challenges the other to “Name that Tune.” If the challenged contestant correctly names the song, she earns a point for her team.

This game will involve some advance preparation, including looking up interesting facts about the song. With the help of the Internet, however, this task is made much easier!

Game #5: Break the Water

Since the guest of water will have to cope with her water eventually breaking, why shouldn't her guests have to endure the same thing? With this game, you will need to find some small, plastic babies or other baby shower-themed item. Then, freeze them inside a plastic cup prior to the shower. Hand out a cup to each woman as she enters the shower. The first woman to melt the ice or otherwise free her baby from the frozen cup wins a prize.

A different twist on #2-
Have the Mom-to-be come up with her own list. She can do this ahead of time. Any answer that matches Mommy's answer gets a point. Guest with most points wins. Easiest if you narrow the names down to the gender of the baby or 1 list of each if gender is unknown.

Find that Safety Pin Game

Items Needed

Rice
Bowl
Large and Small safety pins
Timer or use your wrist watch
Blindfold

You will need to fill the bowl with a bag of rice, safetypins, and I also added some babyshower confetti to the bowl for added fun. The object of the game is to try and find as many safety pins in 60 seconds. Whoever has the most wins. This was really a fun game and a hit a couple of babyshowers I attended and hosted.

I've been reading many of these comments regarding baby games at the shower. What I'm confused about is that many mention 'prizes' for the guests. When I went or was given a baby shower the only prizes given were things for the mom i.e. diapers, baby lotion, rattles, etc. Am I wrong not to follow this theme? The shower is for the mom not for the guests to go with a candle or bottle of perfum, right? Please advise. It has been over 20 years since I was at a baby shower. p.s. I'm giving a shower in two weeks.

I just hosted a shower on saturday and I got 6 presents for the 6 games we played. They were simple like, lipgloss, shower gel and a lufa sponge. Something simple and cheap. The guest loved getting to win, it puts a little more fire in their pants to try and win if you know what I mean. But I have also been to many showers that did prizes like baby items and they gave them to the mother to be. It is really you personal wish on what you want.
Hope I could help.

I'm giving my daughter a shower this weekend and I went out the way to please her and pleasing the guests pleases her. I thought of filling a small kid's pool full of water balloons and let the guest "break the water" trying to find the toy babies in 60 seconds Also I got the super soaker water guns and have the guest race to fill a sand pale to a certain line. Theses are really fun games.

I feel prizes for the winners of the games is an added "Thanks for Coming", makes it fun for them and shows you appreciate the money they spent on gifts and the time they took out to attend the shower. So, I WOULD buy prizes for each game your planning to play and give a prize to the winners. The prizes do not have to be expensive, a simple candle, bottle of lotion, lottery ticket, small box of chocolates, etc...

I think you have enough for a 2 hour shower, but if you are looking for some other games I found some great shower games at ParentingWeekly.com

I'm with texas lady...I have never given a shower and not given prizes to the guests for games...Thats apart of the fun...Believe me mom to be will get plenty and it is okay to share with others...especially since the gift they give is oodles more than the prize they will receive....lol. Seriously nothing is funnier than watching adult women try their hardest to win games for what they know is an inexpensive prize.....it's GREAT FUN!
