The only experience of baby showers I have is seeing them on American TV programmes. But my friend has gone and got herself knocked up; and as she's single, unemployed and living with her mum, I have taken it upon myself to throw her a baby shower - to cheer her up and also because of all those presents everyone will have to bring her.
So I really need teaching the A-B-C of throwing a baby shower. I have a venue (a house), I'm going to sort out finger food, a cake and decorations and there'll be music and party bags. Am I on the right lines here? What else do I need?
The games will be a bit difficult. She (like me!) is a feminist, and this means she wants to avoid hegemonic gender identities. SO (it's a boy), no blue, no gender-specific toys or clothes, no gender-specific anything.
She also (like me!) does not go in for soppiness or tweeness, she won't appreciate anything to do with "mummy-to-be", storks, etc.
SO! I love this woman dearly but, good people, I don't think this will be the easiest baby shower to organise! Any suggestions? Many thanks.
